Y5 Kwik Cricket Festival

The Westfield Kwik Cricket Festival used to be a local tradition within the community but due to funding cuts and bad weather, the festival hasn’t happened for a number of years. However I feel it is well and truly back on the community calendar as it has managed to take place for 2 years running.

14 leaders were firstly selected to take part in an afternoon learning the laws of the game and how to umpire. The leaders learnt basic coaching principles and officiating skills required to lead cricket for younger children. These leaders were integral in the festival the following week. 3 schools brought teams to the festival which was held at Eckington CC. The leaders scored, umpired and officiated the festival ad well as coaching a school group. It was a great chance for all those involved to show their leadership skills picked up from afternoon of training.

Special thanks must go not only to the 14 leaders for making the day a huge success but to Tom Dawson of Eckington CC who let us have access to their wonderful ground completely free of charge. It really is a picturesque setting and makes the experience for all involved a brilliant one
